modi decides what to say, when and how
PRIME Minister Narendra Modi delivers a wonderful lecture
whenever he speaks. People are impressed with the detail. Modi must have
delivered more than 100 speeches on a variety of subjects after taking over as
Prime Minister. Keeping the fast-paced activities in mind, most Prime Ministers
have kept speechwriters. HY Sharada Prasad was an eminent journalist and the
speechwriter for Indira Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi too depended on speechwriters.
Narasimha Rao also had to depend on inputs from various sources. Sonia Gandhi’s
speech is Indira Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi too depended on speechwriters. Narasimha
Rao also had to depend on inputs from various sources. Sonia Gandhi’s speech is
written, altered, edited by many well-wishers within the party and outside.
Manmohan Singh always read his speech which was typed and handed over to him.
Even our President, Pranab Mukherjee, has a team of speechwriters and as a
matter of protocol, he delivers it through a typed script. Modi is, however,
the exception. He has input providers within the PMO but he decides what to say
and how; the political focus is all decided by him. During the elections, he
used to speak extempore but after becoming Prime Minister, he makes notes and
jots points. It’s a tough job for him but he enjoys it. Whenever he is going to
deliver a lecture at an important meeting, he focuses on the lecture and keeps
aside all work. He prepares all points and makes notes himself. Files can wait
when he is preparing a lecture. Sources disclose that, for Civil Services Day
in May, he kept planning for days. Even for his Independence Day speech, which
was the longest so far, he prepared by himself. g
