The unkempt look of government offices can disappoint anybody. But it is not always true. The Government pays no less attention to housekeeping, especially on Saturdays and Sundays. Offices are cleaned rigorously, though most of the work is outsourced. Every morning, like a home, office assistants clean the sahib’s table and place fresh drinking water. Corridors in certain ministries are even perfumed regularly. The early morning activity can be noticed mainly at the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion in the Ministry of Commerce. Well-dressed foreigners can be seen at the reception of Udyog Bhawan early in the day.
