THE story of Durga Shakti Nagpal is a case study of how the All India Services should fight their
battles. For many of us, it started with the name ‘Durga’ which immediately called to mind the picture of the goddess pitted against the wily and ferocious Mahishasura. Then we had the persona of the goddess in a photograph showing a young innocent face with a non-combative smile. We had the biodata of the 28-yearold with a brilliant academic record and a top rank in the Civil Services Examination, married to another IAS officer.
