THE 40th Chief Justice of India, Palanisamy Sathasivam, does not enjoy a reputation for being an ‘active judge’, as he firmly believes in separation of powers until one organ of the State suffers failure. In his six years of adorning the high constitutional position of an apex court judge, Sathasivam was a signatory to as many as 1,037 judgments.
